| Even with all the emphasis placed on proper monitoring and maintenance of the lubricant in equipment, many people often forget that the coolant exists. Yet coolant condition monitoring and replacement are just as critical to improve reliability and prevent crevice corrosion in cooling systems. When replacing water-based coolants, always dilute using only distilled or deionized water — never tap water. In many locations, the chloride content in tap water is quite corrosive and can greatly increase corrosion rates in cooling systems. (Daryl Beatty, Dow Chemical)

| How often a lubricant survey is conducted will depend on a variety of factors, including the nature and age of the facility, changes in personnel, training, etc. A true lubricant survey will ensure that the optimum lubricant is chosen to meet plant expectations as well as maximize machine and lubricant life. |
